Introduction to Close Protection Training

With the new legislation licensing the security sectors, the SIA from the 20th March 2006 has implemented the close protection (bodyguard) license. This new legislative requirement was developed by the SIA steering Committee to develop the National Occupational Standards which are in force today and being taught by Close Protection training providers.

CTR Services has created this course aimed at developing a management level of advanced working towards the next step, by developing the Foundation Degree (FD) in Protective Security Management, to bridge the gap from Level 3 bodyguard training qualifications to the higher education qualifications to meet the needs of the next licensable sector.

Close Protection Training Course Structure

This Close Protection training course was designed by CTR Services Ltd to cater for the demand from our UK clients. We are endorsed by Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College under contractual agreement to conduct the Security Industry Authority (SIA) 150 hour Short Course. The course structure focuses on developing the student to a level that they can complete a live exercise at the end of the course with one of our existing clients. No other training course can provide this type of Close Protection training with the added career development system we have to all Close Protection training students.

The recognition of the Close Protection training course is second to none and during the 16 days you will develop a portfolio which prepares you for the future within the Corporate and Celebrity sectors and management.

Close Protection Training Course Breakdown

So what will you learn on the 16 day Corporate & Celebrity training course?
To make the learning progressive, we have split the SIA core competencies into manageable segments which follow the operational financial commitment made by our existing client base. (In other words working from 1 on 1, to full teams).

Threats

In this module you will cover advanced methods of conducting Risk & Vulnerability Assessments to Threat analysis and security design mythology. The module is started by understanding the range of threats you will encounter within corporate and celebrity environments and takes you through the progressive steps to finally develop a security plan. "Unless you can identify the threat? How can you protect against it".

Personal Security

Personal Security is a module that looks at the Close protection Operative and principal alike and utilizes the SAFER system. You will develop skills in IT security, Home and Work security procedures for the CPO and client through client education.

Low Level Protection

This module is the heart of the course with roles and responsibilities of the bodyguard and the principals/practices of working as an individual Close Protection Operative (personal body cover). It will also cover search awareness (person, vehicle & room, venue) and venue based security design and implementation.

Escort Section

This module through financial acceptance of the client develops the individual CPO to work within a team or with a personal escort section. Teamwork, communications and foot drills will be covered as well as operational planning and preparation. With the mode of transport covered you will also learn vehicle techniques.

Security Advance

This module concentrates on reconnaissance and route selection of routes, venues, meetings and all pre advance areas the principal may visit on a daily, short notice, special or specific visits. You will learn in detail the needs of prior planning and execution of detailed planning from a manager' view.

Conflict Management

Conflict management module covers Law and Legislation for operation in the UK and the use of force. You will develop your interpersonal and presentation skills through role play, so that you can conduct yourself in a corporate or celebrity environment. You will be exposed to common incidents and dilemmas to which you will have to deal with by use of communications and conflict management skills we will teach you.

Surveillance

The surveillance module contains the fundamentals of surveillance, counter and anti so that you understand the principals of conducting it so that you can avoid it and remain constant with your awareness drills whilst working within a team environment.

Live Final Exercise

Combined with the practical exercises and the use of live clients for the real training effect, CTR has developed an unparallel course to prepare you for future employment development and not just an operator' qualification.

Close Protection Training Course Location

The new training location is a sophisticated and well presented location that caters for all the students needs and is the perfect setting to train and learn in a secure and concentrated environment. The resources available allow students to present exercises and tasks with latest visual display systems.

Close Protection Qualifications & Work Progression

As this course is based around Corporate and Celebrity protection within the UK, it has a portfolio that develops students for career progression within management and other senior aspects of the security market. The portfolios of certificates you will gain by the end of the course are:

CTR Protective Security Certificate.
BCUC Protective Security Certificate (for SIA license)
BCUC Protective Security Course Report.
Skills for Security Protective Security Certificate.
SIA License Examination.
Portfolio & CV creation.

Due to the fact that we are an operational company first we do offer some of our students work at the end of the course as long as they meet SIA criteria. On an average course 62% of students have worked for CTR, 9% of students have been placed with other companies, 5% have gone straight into higher education within protection and the remainders have found their own paths within the industry.
